There are amazing stories hidden inside those who live quietly among us, and it is the mission of the Indiana Writers Center to bring them to light. The IWC supports Indiana writers of all ages and backgrounds and reaches out to people whose voices are rarely heard. Classes and workshops taught by published writers provide writing education that encourages creative expression and enhances the communication skills necessary for success in school, in the workplace, and in life. We envision a thriving center where Indiana writers build the writing skills appropriate to their goals and experience the healing, empowering and joyful benefits that engaging in the creative process brings.
We’re looking forward to continuing that legacy as we celebrate three major milestones in 2019—the 40th anniversary of the founding of the IWC, the 10th anniversary of Barbara Shoup as Executive Director, who is now in the role of Writer-in-Residence, and our new Executive Director, Rachel Sahaidachny. We’re more focused, vibrant, and visible than we’ve ever been. We plan to use this special year to highlight our history, enhance our community’s knowledge and appreciation of who we are and what we do, continue to increase diversity in our programs and staff, and work harder than ever at fundraising to ensure that we can last another 40 years—and more. We need your help to make that happen!
